Dave: husband of one, father of two, child of The Only, builder for many, teacher for some, learning to serve for an audience of One.
Keturah: wife, mother, daughter, sister, child of God, business person, eco-hippie, pragmatic, reader, singer, friend, 1860s civilian re-enactor, and the main contributor to this blog.
Miss M: A 7 year old whippersnapper who loves to be fancy, enjoys eating treats whenever she can get them, has seemingly boundless energy and whose proclivity toward negotiation will hold her in good stead in the long run but currently wears out her mama.
Little A: The still, calm water balance to our little tornado, our three year old loves her big sister, is joyful and patient, and is just learning to master life's major challenges.
We've been working on a family poster with words that highlight who we are/who we want to be. Some of the words currently describe us and some are aspirational. I think everyone has a desire to be part of something bigger than themselves and contribute toward a greater good- some kind of purpose to life. We want to create that within our family and be life giving. We've got some room to grow before I think that truly applies to us, but that's part of what this sabbatical is all about.
The 5 core words for our family are:
- Faith ~ our Christian faith is at the center of our family and central to who we are, what we feel our life purpose is, and where we're going.
- Intentionality ~ we've got this one nailed going out the gate. Yes, intentionality is {almost} our middle name. We want a reason to do things, think it through, and do it thoroughly.
- Courageous ~ we are willing to step into messy situations and do what is right, even when it's not easy.
- Community ~ Partially achieved. We've been living with other people in our home since 2005. Some versions of community have been more harmonious than others. We want to grow in our ability to invest in others and live life together ~ whether they are living with us or not.
- Joy ~ The girls have this one down better than the parents at this point in life. But, we want to be joyous people and this ties into the life giving goals I outlined above.
