Is this a mission trip?

Why in the world did we go to Peru?  When we first mention it, a lot of people automatically think it was a mission trip.  While we are always willing to talk about our faith, our 22 month sojourn in Peru wasn't a mission trip.  It was a family sabbatical or "sabbath rest."

We wanted to take time to be...
  • with our family
  • in God's presence
  • intentionally growing
  • experiencing a new culture
  • learning a new language
  • spending time with our girls when they are young
  • in community with others
We found that we grew, changed, and experienced a lot of things while we were gone.  And we also found that we had some opportunities to talk about our faith and listen to other people talk about what is important in their lives.

If you ever want to know what we believe and why, we'd be happy to talk with you about it (and we'd also be happy to listen to you talk about your beliefs).

The short summary...we believe that we are part of a great story....one of adventure, a love story... one in which an all-powerful God created us for a purpose, set out good works in advance for us to do, wants us to participate with him in his work, and who has not only the ability but the willingness to rescue us from our own mistakes and bad decisions.  We believe that Jesus is God and that he was telling the truth when he said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  No one comes to the Father except through me," and "I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly."  And we believe that he invites everyone to join in the story, too.
